Resin Trap

Description

Nozzles, Laterals & Resin Traps are basically filtration/retention components used in Ion-Exchange Columns. The main purpose of the nozzles and laterals is to keep the resins inside the column while allowing only the fluid to pass through. In case there is some leakage from the column then the resin traps are used as safety traps in the pipe lines just after the column. Owing to continuous operation of columns high reliability is expected from these components as any leak of resins will lead to untimely shut-down of the units causing heavy losses and high maintenance costs of downstream equipment. With apt design expertise the nozzles and laterals can be designed to avoid channelling effect and dead- zones in media bed.

Resin traps or Media Traps as they are usual referred to are additional safety instruments for arresting  any leakage from the ion-exchange columns. They are inserted inside the pipe-line directly or by using a pipe-spool in-line with the existing pipeline. The sizing of the resin traps is done taking into account the forward as well as the backwash flow rates so that the pressure drops are maintained to a minimum level.

They are the best alternative to conventional strainers as their design occupies minimal space requirement due to inline solutions. Due to the inherent mechanical strength of the wedge wire screen these resin traps can be designed to withstand any line pressure drops contrary to the conical mesh type conventional traps. Depending on the application the Resin Traps can be supplied in SS 304/304L/316/316L, Hastelloy C276, Duplex & Super Duplex.
